The Circular Economy
We live on a finite planet, with a growing population and increasing living standards. Our current economy is linear, where we take,
make, use and dispose of resources. This has caused an increase and instability to raw material and energy prices, unnecessary waste
and damage to the environment. This linear economic model is simply unsustainable.
To create a sustainable future for our finite planet, we must rethink how we use our resources to ensure we turn a linear economy
in to a circular economy. In this future state, resources will continuously be reused and there will be no net effect to the environment.
There are many different ways in which the circular economy can be achieved and it will require co-ordination and acceptance from
companies, NGOs, governments and consumers. For further information on the circular economy, see the
Ellen MacArthur Foundation
who lead the Circular Economy agenda.
